My first thought was that your mouse needs cleaning, But since you tried two different units, that is unlikely. When I bought an Intellipoint 4.0 mouse, I had to install software, remove, re-install --- 3 times before everything suddenly works O.K.

I think what you are experiencing is what happens when you press the scroll wheen on the mouse, and a small circle appears with an up & down arrow in. When you move the mouse up, the document scrolls up (in Word, Internet explorer etc.) and when you move the mouse below the small circle the document moves down. If this is what is happening, this isn't a problem - just don't press the scroll wheel on your mouse.

Turn your mouse over, take the cover off around the ball. Take the ball out and clean all off the dust, lint, or what ever can collect in there. use a Q-tip while being careful. Then replace.

My roommate had problems with her cursor (the problems were a little different) and she had no viruses, etc. She tried plugging in my mouse and it worked. Maybe you need to get a new mouse.

Have you "defragged" your hard drive. If not, try it. When you have lots of applications on your system and use them at the same time, you can disrupt your file drawers. Defragging reformats you programs so the computer doesn't have to search for parts of the program. Go to "start", "programs", "accessories", "system tools", and "defragment"...you should defrag your hard drive about once a week...I had the same problem and this corrected it.

If it is a wireless mouse you need to change the battery. If it is not a wireless mouse, get a new mouse.

OK, to open Task Manager, you have to open follow these steps. 1. Open the start menu and click on "Run". If you are using Vista, just go to "All Programs" and "Accesories" then "Command Prompt". 2. In "Run" type in "cmd" and press Enter. 3. In Command Prompt, type in "taskmgr". 4. Task Manager should open. Remember, you have to follow these steps exactly and type in everything exactly as said here. Hope this solves your problem.
