gases released from food and drink which ends up in the intestinal tract and has to go somewhere. Of course that explains why you mother always tells you to chew your food properly

because we eat vegetable matter which causes the formation of gas in your intestine...it has to get out sometime. It's also responsible for your comparative inability to choose when you have a bowel movement - you really can't hold it in forever.
