I was the same way! You probably don't have a great self-esteem and the alcohol helps you let go of inhibitions.I was a good friend and always helped others but in a group I just couldn't talk. I had the hardest time giving reports in front of a class. I had skills but could never be the one to win things because of the lack of self-esteem.When I had a few drinks I found that I could be very outgoing. I didn't drink until after high school and a failed marriage.I finally learned to relax. I got hooked on the alcohol for every party or group get-together! At 30 I stopped drinking because I realized what I was doing.I wasn't known as a drinker and I was well involved in the community but I relied on drinking too much.I am happy that I stopped. I am my true self now and I have no trouble stating my mind in a group. I still have some trouble with family groups for some reason. I can get in front of a crowd of 500 and MC an event or teach a class and I am so glad that I can share my gifts with others. I hope you will not get hooked on alcohol and learn to be yourself and let yourself have fun and be more functional without drugs/booze. Best wishes!

I think you feel that you can be more out-going when you've been drinking, because it takes the edge off. Making you feel a bit more out-going. Your friends shouldn't just like you because you were drinking with them. Try just drinking one, or attempt to talk to other people with out drinking, the more laid back you feel the better time you'll.
Good Luck Hun.

It's just a question of self-confidence. Alcohol provides you with Dutch courage. You should try finding people online with similar interests to yours and chat to them. That will help.

The alcohol overcomes your inhibitions. Try developing your sober personality. You have a whole person in there trying to come out.
