I'd say neither. My preference is AVG Anti-Virus. Download it free at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5
However, if you only want to conisder your two choices, I'd plump for Norton but only because I have no experience of McAfee, but Norton does seem to slow your operating system down, especially if your PC is short of memory.

Definitely McAfee for home users. And especially true for corporate users.

It is much more stable. Norton has wierd bugs, is quite slow (makes Outlook hang when I try to view an email with an attachment because it's scanning it and it takes forever) and, personally, it has been going downhill over the years.

Neither are good. They slow down your machine and bug you all the time about updates and scans etc etc. You really want an antivirus program that shuts up and does the job. Kaspersky is the best. Trust me. It took me years to find it and I'll never change again!

EDIT: I had norton... said everything was fine. Uninstalled it, installed Kaspersky, it found 3 viruses that were very bad and deleted them at the click of a button. Now THAT'S antivirus!

I had trouble with both. They interferred with systems running and other applications, & with Norton especially I was taking a lot of Tylenol.

Between those two, I'd pick McAfee. However, I'd recommend Trend Micro.

Check it out. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Hi Cox,

Agreed. I would even suggest you go for the subscription of AVG to get the package because to protect your personal computer with maximum virus protection and product customization, you should select the AVG Professional Single Edition or AVG Anti-Virus plus Firewall which includes all benefits of AVG PSE as well as an integrated firewall.
If you need virus protection as well as anti-spyware protection, then consider ewido anti-spyware plus AVG Anti-Virus Bundle.

I think Norton is superior but their pop up's (reminders) are something to be desired.
