Democracies and democratic republics have rights for their citizens...
ONCE AGAIN... the wire tapping for intel gathering for the WAR against terror is not for the purpose of apprehending or investigating the normal everyday Joe Schmoe and his tax evasion or whatever. Throughout history, while at war, the interception of enemy communications has been done. And it SHOULD be done. It is just now it is more complete and technological that it was when we were intercepting couriers on horseback, or clipping on to telegraph lines, etc.
The government has an obligation to protect the country and our citizens. If listening in on terrorist conversations over a cell phone, without a warrant, is needed. THEN GREAT!!!!!! This is not a violation of our rights, and the terrorists (being un-uniformed enemy combatants in covert operations in acts of aggression against our country) are not afforded the rights of our citizenry.

Why, when I asked the question about America and democracy, did the liberals attack me and say it's not a democracy. It is a Democratic Republic, which is classified as a type of democracy. The conservatives on the street are not to blame for the mistreatment of our constitution by those in power. It is the Dems and the Repubs in DC, both are guilty of the trashing of the Constitution.
Our public education system being infiltrated by communists is to blame for the power that our government has. Civics is no longer taught. People don't understand that the power belongs to the people and that the elected are supposed to represent us, not rule over us.

USA isn't a parliamentary democracy. They are a federal
republic form of government. There is a difference between
the two forms of government. Wiretapping, love of Freedom
restrictions sounds less like a federal republic, and more
like Nazi/Communist/Fascist/Socialist styles of government.
The people on this thread who think the USA is a democratic
republic, or some form of democracy are wrong. This is
straight off the CIA website which states the form of
government is a Constitution-based federal government.
Who knows more about the government than the intelligence
service of that same government? East Germany, which is
now part of Germany, was a democratic republic in the title,
and so is Congo. USA is a constitution based republic.

Because they are more knowledgable than you are. Do the research and you will find the USA is a Democratic Republic. In a Republic groups have representatives. In a pure Democracy individuals decide what happens by voting.
A Democratic Republic has representatives of groups elected by Democratic means.
*LOL* You just want chaos. So you gripe about everything ANY Republican does and ignore everything the Democrats don't do they say they are going to do.
There's a word for people like you --instigator.

The US is not a democracy. Democracy is a privilage for people who take interest in the events and policies that shape their lives. Democracy is for those who would hold their leaders accountable for wrong doings and praise those who do right by the people.
No we are a Representative Republic which in short is Democracy for the lazy.
Hell if the Republicans and Democrats are allowed to remain in office this question will be irrelevant for the United States will devolve into a feudalist society.

I'm not a conservative, but they are correct that the U.S. is not a true democracy. In a democracy, the people vote on laws directly. We have a federal republic. 'Federal' because the powers of government are divided between national, state, and local authorites, and 'republic' because we elect representatives to make the laws.
In the strictest sense, the names of the two parties are a complete misnomer. Neither party really diputes the actual structure of our government.

We're what is considered an indirect democracy, or a republic. We vote for representatives to vote on things for us.A true democracy would be impractical, plus there's no way you could get evry person to vote on something, much less agree with each other.

Maybe because the CONS went to high school where we learned that the USA is a Republic. We elect representatives to make our political decisions for us.
A little advice; next time before insinuating that someone Else is an idiot make sure you are not one.
By the way is my burger ready yet?

Look at the detention bill they are passing today, it spits on the Constitution--Big Government can drag people off the street, hold them forever without even trials, and torture them. What in the name of God is American about that? Thats Soviet! They hate America.
