I don't know where you get your numbers, but the New York times reported that in July Iraq had 3,438 CIVILIAN deaths. This number does not reflect the deaths of military personnel.
Now, I live in Pennsylvania, about an hour north of Philadelphia. If you can prove to me that there were over 3,000 homicides during the month of July, I'll buy you a cheese steak for each person killed.
Ok - So you meant only the military deaths. That is a bit more information than you originally posted. I think that when you look at the overall picture, not just the 49 soldiers, you see that although yes Philly is a violent city, it cannot compare to the deaths that are happening in Bagdad.

Calee, where did you get your facts? In Philadelphia there were less than 400 murders in 2005- that's for the year! That's a lot of murders compared to Seattle where there are about 50 murders/year but in Iraq there's easily more than 400 deaths each week!
Regarding the answer from Whiteboyasiangirl: that's typical of a totally ignorant conservative. Don't let the facts get in the way.

Nobody cares about Philadelphia.
Iraq had >6500 killed or wounded in July That is the combined number of Iraqi and foreign. So if Philly beat that good for them.

Well telling the truth about murders in Iraq is not the medias long suit. That the majority of deaths in Iraq are murders and not combat related would hinder the propaganda machine which undermines our purpose.
That said you are right we have our own terrorists right here at home we call them by a different name "gangs".

And there are more US people killed in automobile accidents in one year than died in all of Viet Nam or the Korean Conflict.
Deaths in Philly won't get blamed on Bush *LOL*

Yes, I am aware that more people died in Philly than Iraq. It is reflective of how little resolve liberals have on the war on terror. We do not have the luxury of cowardice, they will follow us home. We cannot abandon the war due to domestic issues that we have little control over.

Thanks for sharing. Pity you do not hear that in the media. After all it is the media that is always comparing us to other countries.
America has the worst health care system,
America has more people in jail then any other country
blah blah
And what this means is that their are more greiving families in that city then in the rest of america.
She meant to say that more people were murdered in Philadelphia then there were American soldiers killed in Iraq for that period of time.
get a grip you whiny liberals.

WOW thats really interesting. i dont know much about iraq or the war with iraq but my opinion is that we should be paying more attetion to our country instead of helping some others i know that might be selfish but thats how i feel.

Hmmm....So, based on the phrasing of your question, I can only assume that the thousands of Iraqis who lost their lives in July to murder and torture aren't actually people? Interesting. I suspect their families would beg to differ...
