This famous line by Alfred Tennyson has far deeper meaning than the apparent.

There are things in life that we aspire to but it requires sincere efforts to achieve them. The path may not be easy but one thing is for sure that they can't be achieved without the sweat of the brow. If we toil we MAY not succeed, but if we don't then it is for sure that we WILL NOT succeed. The odds are in favor of trying than sitting back for fear of any possible negative consequences. Great things have always been achieved by great people by fearlessly venturing into the unknown with disregard to possible failures. We do not have definitive control over the consequences. but we do have control over our actions.

Further, even if we try and lose, it does not go in vain. We derive important life experiences and lessons that not only make us a better/knowledgeable person but also equip us better in our next endeavor.

Fear of failure is dangerous. It can propel into inaction and stunt our physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual growth. Belief in oneself and the understanding that only actions are in our hands are the wheels that help us grow and enrich.

A variant of this statement may be: "It is better to have tried and failed than never to have tried at all".

I think its is better to have loved and lost for two reasons...If a person never knows what love is there is always that question in the back of there mind whats it like....My cousin is 28 years old and never even kissed a man...It bothers her everyday because she has never felt what love is like...Me on the other hand has loved and lost many times and yes it hurts for awhile but it teaches you life lessons....It makes you a stronger person....And makes you realize what not to mess up on next time....If we didn't have hurt in our lifes we would never realize how great the good is....It would just seem like something we could do with out....And no one likes to be lonely....But losing someone you love so much makes you not want to lose anyone else...So it might make you try harder the next time....

Love is such a beautiful feeling that even an atheist starts believing in God because Love, in other words mean God. Love is the sweetest feeling in the world and the only one who has tasted it knows that it’s nectar. Tell me who would not like to taste the nectar in this world
You must have heard this saying, “No pain no gain”. Likewise how can you gain the worthiest thing of this world without pain?
I am sure, you will feel blessed when you fall in love. Don’t forget my words then.

Love is Pain, and Pain cannot be experienced without Love, the two cannot be seperated. True Love is never lost!

I hate being hurt. It is the worst feeling in the world. Sometimes I think that It would be better off to be alone, so that would never happen, but then again, isn't being lonely hurting too?

Life is about experience. Some are good, some are bad. I don't believe I've ever met anyone who has not "loved and lost," including yours truly. And while the experience is not one I'd push on people, I am glad that I have had it.

Get a dog! That love is without question. He'll never leave you, cheat on you, or leave you at home with the kids while he gos to the bar........ ummmm anyway......You get all the love in the world, with none of the side effects!! So in my op, no, it's not better.

Maybe the dream of what it might be like..........is far better than the reality could ever be. I would certainly rather spend my life waiting (in vain?) for the right girl - than to hook up with the wrong girl (and then bump into the right one).
