One time at work I asked a customer if she could move out of the way in a polite tone and she wouldn't budge.

I decided to try to get around her and all of the sudden she snapped at me cause she accused me of stepping on her foot and she was being totally mean and nasty about it and she even threatened to report it to the manager.

Plus I kept on trying to persuade her to accept my apology cause it was an accident and all of the sudden she got so annoyed by my persuasive attitude that she ended up saying "OH FORGET IT!"

She was totally rude and she had no right to lose her temper at me like that.

She appeared to be in her 50's, she was about 5'4-5'5" and she was pretty thin.

Working in retail is one of the most difficult jobs in the world! I worked in retail many years ago. It was just a horrible, horrible experience.

I think one of the keys in successfully working in retail is to learn to not take rude behavior directed at you by a customer personally. You almost have to learn to mentally detach yourself from the REALLY crazy customers.

For someone to behave like that customer behaved toward you, the person has to have a pretty crappy life. Although most people are friendly and polite, some people just get up in the morning mad at the world - such as the woman you encountered that day. When she didn't budge the first time you asked her to move, I probably would have politely repeated my request. If she still didn't move, I would have assumed that either she was deaf (very unlikely) or she was just trying to give me a difficult time. In that case, I would have just used another aisle to get where I wanted to go, rather than try to squeeze past her.

The world would be a much easier place to live if some customers weren't rude and otherwise difficult. The next time something like that happens, don't let it ruin your day - just be glad you're not that person and just go on about your business.

How did you ask her to "get out of the way"? Hopefully you said "Excuse me, please" the correct way. Assuming you did the woman is a moron. Get her address and keep ordering pizzas to it for a week. Family size. Thick crust. She'll get the hint. Or get fatter. One or the other.

That is life! Welcome to the wonderful world of retail. If you get too tired of it, become a telephone rep. This will enable you to roll your eyes while you pleasantly calm the crazy customer down.
