The first Atlanta race was the Dixie 300,July 31,1960 the winner was Fireball Roberts.
The first Atlanta 500 was October 30,1960 and the winner was Bobby Johns.

Bobby Allison, if memory serves me well and also he won the pole.... Also check the source for winners.... Also, I'm not an old timer... just a young buck.
