ok, i know they're celebrities, but when something tragic happens, it all comes down to they're still human. they're trying to say now that it was steve irwin's fault that he died cause he made some mistakes when he got stung, but what does it matter? he would have died either way...it was his time. i think in times like this, the media should have the decency to back off.

Steve crammed more into his life, probably about 3 lifetimes than many people would achieve in one. He slept little, about 2 or so hours a day. So if you factor that in, he's had a long full life.

Steve approached the ray correctly, where it could see him and the cameraman, it turned and lashed out for whatever reason, it appeared to box itself in. Perhaps it was having a bad day or wasn't feeling well, we'll never really know why this normally docile creature attacked. It's likely that something off camera spooked it. He died doing what hundreds (possibly more) of people before him have done, swimming with the rays, in fact, I have a family member who dives often with sharks and rays and has for a long time without so much as a problem. With only 17 deaths from ray attacks in recorded history, the chances of it occuring were very remote. Steve took a toxic barb, directly to the heart (an easy target, as boy what a big heart that man had) it killed him almost instantly. It was a tragic accident, not a mistake that took his life. Had it penetrated a limb or his stomach, anywhere but a vital organ, he would have survived. His death has brought more recognition to his cause, many didn't know and still don't exactly how much he did for ALL of the animals..

Saying Steve deserved it, is akin to saying that anyone who is killed travelling to work everyday and is killed in a car accident on their way to work deserves it. That logic is totally flawed. Steve was doing what he needed to do and with more passion than those critics could ever muster in their pinky finger.

I feel that those sprouting this callous claptrap are suffering tall poppy or wannabe syndrome and are jealous of his achievements, the love he and Terri, and indeed his children shared. Many are misguided and believe that Steve pocketed all of the money they made, that couldn't be further from the truth, they gave it to conservation and to children's charities and kept only enough from the zoo to survive themselves.

Without Steve, today in Australia, many species would be extinct.

He may have looked rough with the animals, however, in most cases it was necessary and far kinder than using tranquillisers which can have horrible side effects. If tacking those crocs etc was not safe for them, he would not have done it. Many people still don't understand what he was about, nor do they seem to want to.

I seriously doubt these people have real respect for themselves and to make themself feel better about themself, they feel the need to tear other's apart and bring them down. You know the saying, you can't love another until you love yourself, it's about respecting yourself, treating yourself well and treating others as you wish them to treat you. They lack empathy. These people need our love, not our hate, for they are the ones suffering. You can tell so much about a person from the words they speak and i'm guessing these folk have been emotionally or mentally abused in their life and they are hurting so lash out because they feel anyone is fair game.

Also remember, the opposite of love isn't hate, it's indifference. If they were indifferent, they wouldn't say a word.

Unfortunately using the media and decency in the same sentence is an oxymoron. I think his family is being extremely brave. When his little girl read her statements at tne memorial service I cried.

Don't put all the blame the paparazzi. If society wasn't so bent on knowing every detail of a celebrity's life then they wouldn't have a job.
