well text message means anything with text.
so i'll be a dorkwad on this one and say the first text message was in the 30s.
:D
phone text message? 80s or 70s.
first email? late 60s.
these are too generalized and inaccurate.
but so are most text messages.
well if you go back further... 1850s... text was compiled (written or typed) via morse code... now that was a form of texting.
but the text was implimented manually by human hands.
