I had one that gave up the power supply, easy fix $40 bucks and it was running again.
My son in law has one that has been up and running 3 years now and the grandchildren use it 24/7, it needs to be cleaned of spyware and adware once a year just like any other computer that gets online for chat rooms and myspace.

I bought eMachine computer a year ago(Black Friday, bought for 150$ Complete system including Printer and 17" Monitor) and upgraded ram to 2gb. eMachine has generally bad rep for being bad computer which I agree. In early days, eMachine really have used low quality chinese made parts that are not really field proven.(They used like MOBO from PcChips. PcChips quality worst back then, still bad but not much as in past) Usually within a year or so, the computer doesn't work. When I bought the computer set, I checked the system specification. This time it included the MOBO from intel. I figured quality or it would last longer and bought it.(The value of monitor itself makes up for the whole value that I paid for). If you just need the computer for basic needs, I would say eMachine is good enough for it.

eMachines are owned now by Gateway. Gateway machines are average which makes eMachines the bottom of the bottom. If you need a computer look for one of those end of month/year/quarter super deals coming up that Dell has. If you can wait before Christmas I bet there will be a lot super deals to be found. 3 year warranties are worth every penny.

That's true, they're very cheap computers, but like most people say "You get what you pay for" and that is fact. I have one, and its a piece of work thats for sure. It sits in my closet collecting dust now :-) Thats all its good for now. Honestly if your going to get a OEM Computer, atleast get Dell, its better than eMachines :-) Good Luck!

yeah ive had to fix so many emachines most common fault, is the hard drive failing or the power supply giving up.
i would rate e-machines as the worst brand of pc and avoid at all costs.

. . . aswell as my Mac I've had an e-Machines PC for about two years - absolute crap - PC World's own brand. Had it wiped to lose all the e-machines shite and re-loaded with XP, drivers, etc and then as good as gold. Get it wiped, it's not worth the aggro . . .
