If the hotel has only a phone jack & no broadband, you'll need to use a dial-up connection via that jack. Yes, that means signing up for a month with some ISP that has local access numbers in the city you're travelling to. You'd want to write down a couple of those phone numbers before you leave, obviously. Otherwise, you'll be stuck with Internet cafes and their hourly prices.
Try dialup4less, they are nationwide, inexpensive and don't require any extra software.

Ask the Motel Room Front Desk or Use Dialup, but you might have to program the dialup to dial 9 when it dials or another pre programmed number. Best ask the Clerk.

You need to make a dial-up connection to the internet. If the motel does not provide a dial-up connection, then you will need to setup an account with an Internet Service Provider (ISP) and setup a Dial-Up-Networking (DUN) connectoid on your computer.
It maybe easier to find an internet cafe and use their connections.

You will have to use the isp that the motel offers. When you get online, just type in www.yahoo.com, to get to your things on yahoo. You will not be able to connect through yahoo, unless the motel is using it for there isp..

You may be able to plug into the phoneline and use a dial-up ISP. Do a Google search for ISPs, and I'm sure you'll find plenty.
