This is done by simaltanious equations

a-b=537
a+b=2113

-b and + b will cancel
add both a it will be 2a
add 537 + 2113 it would be 2650
therfore your next stepwould be
2a=2650
a=2650/2=1325
you found crdit card a's balance which is =1325
now just substitute a into one of those equations
a+b=2113
1325+b=2113
b=2113-1325=788
your answers are
C.Card a=1325
C.card b=788

2113= 2x+537
so minus 537 from 2113 -you get 1576
1576= 2x
so divide 2 into 1576- you get 788
so one credit card is $788 and the other credit card is that plus the 537 so the second credit card is $1325
so your answers are $788 and $1325

a - b = 537
a + b = 2113

Adding the 2 equations gives
2*a = 2650 or
a = 1325.

Substituting gives
b = 2113 - 1325 = 788
