I have a pair of pants that need the seam repaired in one spot. They also need to go to the dry cleaners, as they now smell like restaurant from wearing them out to dinner. Which should I have done first? I'm afraid that if they go to the cleaners first, the tear in the seam will get worse - but I'm also afraid that if they go to the seamstress first, the food smell from the restaurant that I wore them to will get locked in when she presses them. Advice?

Ask the seamstress not to press them, and explain why.

I'd take them to the cleaners first because if the seam tears a little more it'll be easy for the seamstress to stitch a little more of a seam where as if a food smell gets locked into them due to the pressing of them it's more difficult for the cleaner to get the scent out

Take it to the cleaners first, even if the tear becomes larger that is what the seamstress is going to fix anyway. Most Dry cleaners deal with hundreds of clothing items on a daily basis. I'm sure they will not damage it worse.
