yes, but rats are associated w/ sewers and other nasty habitats. mice are cute w/ pink noses running through mazes for the unattainable cheese wedge.

It is they way they are protrayed. Disney has Mickey Mouse beloved by most, a cute little charactor. But in Lady and the Tramp its a rat that goes after th baby. Rats are personified in many legands as evil yet mice as teacher. The Lion and the mouse, for example. The lion lets the mouse go and latter the mouse helps the lion. Rats, however, were said to have been devils work and spwaned from old soiled cothing and would cause death.

Rats are actually cuter because they are friendlier to humans, more intelligent, easier to play with, and smell less.
I used to keep pet rats when I was in high school, and the whole family adored them, although I did have a few friends that didn't like them. The most common complaint that I got was that they did not like their tails. I guess this sort of thing explains the popularity of hamsters.

I don't know, I don't like mice, I have had one rat for a pet and some of them are really sweet, mine was, and then she got little tumors and I had to get her put down, that was one of the hardest things I ever had to do, I was attached to her.

Yes. I think it's because mice look cuter and rats are often associated with disease and filth since they helped to spread the plague back in the Middle Ages.

no rats were responsible for the black death and bubonic plague. Mice are just a nuisance. They dont cause a lot of harm to people.

For me its the tail. EWWWW. Mice have little tails and rats have big, thick, almost finger like tails.
