One of my first jobs out of high school was selling shoes. The boss went to St. Louis (then the top shoe-making center of the USA) and would design the covers on some of a company's lines (Valley, I believe). Ladies would come flocking in when they heard the new stuff was there, and many said "They feel awful but look really great". Sometimes when my wife brings me along shoe shopping with her, I steer her to more sensible shoes (sort of feminized versions of male loafers, softer but with higher heels usually, or what she calls "old woman shoes"), but she keeps wanting to go with looks, then gripes about how uncomfortable they are.

Let me guess why you got the shoes that make you say "my feet are killing me"--they looked pretty, right? That does sell more shoes.

Businesses put out the products that sell, the fact that you buy uncomfortable shoes prove that you like wearing them and enjoy having your feet hurt. Maybe it's some kind of S/m thing. If women all start wearing only comfortable shoes, and not buying anything else, then that is what shoe stores will sell. Demand and supply, simple as that.

Do what I do....wear those cheap K-Mart sneakers with the zipper instead of the ties. They feel GREAT! or flip flops? Don't ever wear those real pointy toed shoes. My foot surgeon told me that's how you get deformed and crossed over toes. And he should know.
