Have you heard about a 'synergy' concept? 1+1=3.

Gangs give an individual a sense of belonging, security, acceptance, reputation and protection. Gangs are formed based on same background, interest and culture. Gangs could be bad and can be good. They generate more ideas, plans and share more knowledge among them.

Basically in a gang there is someone who tends to be the leader. The leader often makes plan and 'control' the whole members. They have their own social reasons and could be anti-social. If kids join gangs for study, school discussion or church group, it is fine. I think there is a difference between a gang which just likes the company of one another and a gang which takes advantage of being in a big group by intimidating others.

Gangs can start off with a good attitude but some end up with bad ones as they begin to think they're powerful and can bully other people - if they help each other with home problems, studying, bullying etc then it's great!

Expert psychologists have warned parents and teachers that joining gang is a form of expression and that being able to express yourself is vital in growing up. Acceptece is everything these days for kids.

Maybe the protection and the sense of family--or belonging--one gets in the dangerous and bleak environment of an urban ghetto. It would probably be much more difficult to attain these things in a more legit manner, so people who grow up in ghettos probably feel they will get these things by joinin a gang. They may not want to but it may just seem like the only alternative for them when school, community and family support are lacking.

No, really, some of the people who have gotten out of gangs indicate that they have a sense of family and belonging that they never had. Plus, you learn respect for other gang members and how the social aspect of the gang hangs together, if you survive it.
Some people have gone on to be entrepreneurs that have done well, using the social skills learned in a gang.

Good question.

Ok, let me submit these few words, hoping it relates in some way. I worked for a huge corporation that sent ppl on seminars and team building exercises all over the place. One of the facilitators of these lectures claimed to have sat down in one room with members of the bloods and crips during problem resolution activities etc.and actually evoked some real emotional bonding.
The one thing that we took away from the feedback was that gangs are to be envied in their communication skills. One runs into tremenduous obstacles in the workplace regarding simple communication - like beaurocracy(red tape), paperwork, approvals but gang members communicate effortlessly via eye-contact, nods, signals, sounds to achieve their objective. In addition to that, we learned that they were efficient as hell because they covered themselves and each other unconditionally. They stood for and supported one another to reach a common goal - they were one - and that made them unstoppable in competition. My 2 cents anyway.
Cheers.

Gangs are bad for society, and bad for the young men and young women who get involved with them.

Gangs of all ethnic and racial groups are criminally oriented, violent, and have no respect for mainstream culture and authority. Gangs vandalize property with their spray paint tags, and make life uncomfortable if not dangerous for those who are not involved in their activity.

Gang bangers are a disruptive element in our schools.

Contact your local police department or juvenile authorities for more information on gang problems in your community.

Groups, clubs; okay! If it is called a GANG, that means violence, weapons, fighting. Nothing good comes out of being in a gang, unless you get out of it, and help other kids to stay away from them.

I suppose support of a peer group is one thing the members might get, perhaps friendship and acceptance is another.
Its too bad it isnt a innocent thing though. I feel pity for kids that join gangs, usually they end up dead or in prison.

Not when there beating each other up just to get in it. Gangs are now in elementary schools! Fourth and fifth graders bringing knifes to school threating to kill each other doesn't sound like a good thing to me.

What good could possibly come from drugs, theft, rape, assault, murder, vandalism and any other illegal activities that those horrifying scumbags are involved in?
