There are a cojple of ideas on the subject, both of them centereing around early childhood experiences. One idea is that there people had a earlly sexual attraction to someone at a very young age and that they are, fro the remainder of their lives attracted to people with these same qualities and associate that age with sexuality. It isn't really that different from someone in their 60's looking at a 20 year old girl and finding them desirable. They were attacted to those qualities in their twenties, and that remains throughout their life. The thing with Pedophiles is that the attarction form at an unusually young age, but it remains throughout life.

The other theory is that they were expiosed to, or participated in some sort of sexual activity and, as above, associate that age with sexuality, even though at the time they may not know what sex is.

The main thing is that psychology doesn't even know what causes sexual attraction in the first place, let alone attraction of adults to children. But those two ideas are the most prevalent currently...

hope that's at least close to what you were looking for...

I completely disagree with upbringing as being the reason for any crime. I was abused many times by a close family member, but I've turned out ok!!

Some people will say that paedophilia is a sickness and although this sounds like a very easy answer, I do think its true.

What motivates them, I don't know. I do know that is scarirly easy for those inclined to lure thier victims.

I have been told that its an addiction like drugs or alcohol, but I have a hard time believing this.

Addictions can be broken, with time and counselling. I am in no way taking the side of the abusers ; this is the way I deal with it.

They do not end up being this way, they always have socially unacceptable sexual urges in the same way as a person knows that they are homosexual, heterosexual or bisexual. Each will be attracted to a particular age or age group and would find it repulsive if another paedophile was attracted to an age group younger than that which they like. They see their preferred age group as being of sexual maturity and this is why they find it acceptable in the same way as we accept 16 as being socially and legally acceptable. At the same time, they know that it is illegal and that socially it is unacceptable and that if caught they will be prosecuted and persecuted.

Still makes me sick.

I reckon there are differing reasons for different individuals. To ask why an adult chooses to prey on children and expect a single common denominator is probably impossible.

Could be to do with:
opportunity to use strength over the weak, interfering with innocients allows them to feel 'safe' as there is probably the idea that they are not being 'judged'. I think that the sexual abuse is a manifestation of something inside of them, not sure what though.

some psychologists would say it has something to do with a "bad" childhood. Possibly abuse or neglect. There area also those who argue that sexuality is not just a desire to be with either a man or a woman, and sometimes people's brains are just hardwired to want to be with children. There are also those who would say that people who want to be with children have poor self-esteem, or issues with control, or even an inability to communicate with thier peers. I could go on. I would suggest you do some research on the subject; you would find many more theories.

i dont think u can end up a pervert, there must be either something in a persons mentality to make them think of such perverted stuff, maybe they were abused themselves as a child and feel its the only way for them to feel close to a person or maybe they see it as love.....sick i know but unless we have been in that situation we can not judge.
maybe some of them do it cos they no its wrong but cannot resist the urge they have.
i personally think this kind of behaviour is present in every person on the planet. the difference is most of us do not give thoughts like that the light of day others of our species cannot resist temptation.

Many people say it is because they themselves have been abused, however, I think if that were the case they would be less likely to abuse because the know the emotional pain it causes. I personally think they are just perverted sick freaks, and they need to learn to control their impulses. They are incapable of having a relationship with an adult and they feel powerful taking advantage of children. I am not an expert these are just my feelings.

really tough question because there are many people out there that think that all abusers have been abused themselfs, this is not the answer! i was abused myself by 3 different men when i was a child, i have a child now and in my experience of 6 years of having my child it has made me very overprotective of my child and other childeren, im petrified of these sickos, i think its something to do with the brain and the bodys chemicals, just a note to anyone who thinks that people who are victems comit themselfs u need your head tested as you are just as bad as them

It's my understanding that most pedophiles were molested as children. So it would follow that it takes a pedophile to make a pedophile.

Curiosity about sexuality happens naturally in young children.

Feeling sexual ABOUT young children is a very real mental disorder and should be dealt with by professionals.

Look up pedophiles on the internet under pedophiles and psychological background

But briefly--many of them have deep abuse in their own background, by one or both of their parents, or someone else.
That is simplistic, but often the case.

Good luck--it is a disturbing subject to study.
