The problem with a feminist approach to a fairytale is that it doesn't fit the time frame of fairlytales. Most women were not dominant except in the household and even then they had to depend on their husbands for financial support.
You would need a strong, powerful female role. Just changing the characters isn't enough, you would probably need to change either the time or culture, or both. You need to keep in mind that fairytales are not just pretty stories. They were used to teach morality to children. Using Cause and Effect and role models, they learn right from wrong (based in the mores of the timeframe and culture in which they were written).
Try udating the fairytale to a more modern era. In place of a wolf use a sexual predator. The woods are now the city. In stead of Red Riding Hood use a school student who has taken some self defense classes. Let Grandma be a retired nurse who now raises flowers and lives across town. The woodsman can be the FBI.
Starting to sound like a modern day story? Most TV shows and movies are just updated fairy tales. The basic story concepts stay the same, but the characters get updated.
Think of the story in this way:
Wolf: Danger
Woods: unknown or unsafe territory
Grandma: Security, the destination of her journey
Woodsman: The Law or the protector
Red: innocence

Morals:
1) Innocence can be lost in the blink of an eye unless you are ever watchful.
2) The strong should always protect the weak and innocent.
3) Don't trust strangers.

Taking a "feminist approach" would probably mean taking one of the fairy tales like "Cinderella" or "Snow White" or "Sleeping Beauty" where the woman needs to be rescued by a man. You would change the fairy tale, so that the woman is strong on her own and able to solve her own problems.

Hansel and Gretel.
Only portray the witch as a feminist fighting for her rights, and Hansel and Gretel are there to keep her down.
Hansel and Gretel would represent the "society" that doesn't want to change. Keep things as they are.
The witch representing her rights as a woman and sometimes to achieve change, violence is necessary.
I don't mean killing in real life, of course. I mean imagery. That is the beauty of writing. You can use anything as a metaphor!

Why not have Snow White kissing the Prince to wake him up? Or have Cinderella as the Princess and "Prince Charming" as the lowly step-brother? Or have Rapunzel rescuing the guy by climbing up his beard? The possibilities are endless and endlessly amusing ... go with it and have fun!

Cinderella, after she married to prince charming, it turned out that he's a jerk. he's possesive, control freak, and abusive husband, then cinderella sew him, got all his money and the castle for herself (they didnt sign a prenup!), also custody for their children, and kicked him out of the castle. The End.

Female dominant.

you could get a good story on that.

at the end, the wolf would be her slave and she makes him wear panties and high heels. She puts a piercing through his balls and puts a leash on it.

any questions??
