By developing do you mean in a positive direction? If not, then as long as we are conscious we are constantly adapting or maladapting to our environment. Short of spiritual death, or deep coma, we cannot stop or pause our constant change in these arenas. This is purely my opinion and consequently worthless, so there's no charge. d:c) I'm just passing through.

I guess you can speed up your cog-soc development or slow it down, but you cannot fully stop it. Learning is something our brain is doing all the time ... I think it should not even be considered a "function" of the brain, it is its normal operation. So, I think that while the brain is working, there is a cognitive, social, emotional, intellectual development going on, no matter what you do.

What do you mean?
Of course it's possible, We can't avoid it. If you're taliking about death.
But on the other hand I think you are looking for challenging us...
Some people stop their own development by their own decisions. Like my students, I mean (lol). They just survive...I think they aren't living in fact.
Did you see the film: The Dead Poets Society ?
They used a latin phrase: Carpe Diem. That means: Use your time !!!

Good question

I know for sure that one can start living. I've done it. My big break was when I discovered the book "What To Say When You Talk To Yourself". That said, I suppose that, given the urge to do so, one could decide to stop living by changing ones attitude.

Yes, it's total withdrawal from life. A very sad state to be in. Sadly there are lots of people hidden away with this condition.

I think yes. My friends grandpa died and her grandma just stopped living. She was healthy, but just gave up on life and three or four months later she just died. Sad huh?
