Well, the only easiest answer would be to say that with logical COMMON SENSE, he could not say we are winning the war in Iraq.

No that's not true at all. He could still have logical, common sense AND say we are winning the war in Iraq if this party was in trouble in the mid-term elections.

He could also say if he did not want to admit he was infallible.

And no, you don't win a war just by capturing it's leader and installing a new government. If we are still talking about whether or not we will win the war, then obviously it's in serious doubt.

Its not a Republican thing. Politics can be either a world where everything is black and white absolutes, or other times it can be the fuzziest gray with no clarity. I depends on how the politician speaking wants to look at at. It is all about spin though, spin can't be separated from politics, its like asking a living person to be a heart donor. Once their heart is removed they are dead, once a politician stops the spin they are as good as dead.

That having been said, Bush can honestly and with a straight face say we are winning the war in Iraq because we are not losing. He is playing the game of absolutes, since we are not losing we must be winning. In the world of absolutes there is no middle ground.

He can say we are winning the war because 2/3s of the country wants help from the US and a new government. He just omits referencing the Sunni population who does not share that same sentiment.

And try not to look to a politician for logic or common sense. they are all about pushing the beliefs of their party. The precious few who speak out for what is right get crushed by the establishment like Joe Lieberman.

The one and only fact that we are winning the war is that , unlike Germany, France, Spain and other countries. We have not had a signle terrorist attack.

No spin, just fact.

We won the war.We are now attempting to win the peace.Stabilizing a country is not easy and when made worse by deep resentments between different ethnicity's and out side agitators that job is harder. As long as we do not abandon them we will win.

Because we removed their government, captured their leader and are now instituting a new government.

Thats a win in any war. (Actually, once you capture the leader it's a win, everything else is just post-war drama).
