It seems to me that you can say that you are an axe murderer and be more accepted in the black community than if you said you were gay?

It's true. The black community views homosexuality as the "white man's perversion." Many members of the Afro-American community still believe the stigma that AIDS is a disease raging in only the white and gay communities, and sadly there a lot of deaths caused by AIDS labeled as death by Cancer in the obituaries. It;s the fact that there is such a small acceptance that so many of the black men are not coming out, because this is quite a religious group with expectations of marriage and children from all members of their group. It's created a lot of men practicing the DL (Down Low) and furthering the AIDS/HIV epidemic...

I think it comes down to spirituality. I know we don't appear to be a spiritual people now days, but we as a people were that way since Africa. The young boys left their mothers at certain ages and lived among the men to learn the things that only men can teach boys.I do not say that being gay is spiritually wrong, but that has been the teaching since forever and being taught something from childhood as an offense against God and nature is a powerful teaching to overcome. The more difficult question is how do gay men accept the fact that if what's been taught is true and God does in fact call them an abomination, what then ? Trying to get the black community to accept that life style will probably never happen b/c if we don't believe in much, we believe there is a God.I am just expressing my very lowly opinion,I pass no judgements on any one or their life style, to me to each his own.

I dont know I think it is true though. I know lots of gay men, I am from New orleans and we have some thing called Bounce music it is high energy dance music and it is mostly made by feminine gay men, my favorite is Javocka who's lyrics include"I'm a punk under pressure, when he finish put the money on the dresser" and " I got that Gin in my system, somebody gonna be my victim". So I think we are pretty tolerant for the most part I dont really care about what other people do I have enough problems in my own life. All I can do is pray for them My fiance is white anyway so I am not losing anything!

I do believe in God and Jesus and I feel ultimately everyone of us will have our own decisions to answer for, I dont have time to make decisions for others.

What makes you think this is more intense in the Black Community? I haven't noticed any cultural or racial community heterosexuals throwing any "coming out" parties and showing a non-biased attitude to alternate lifestyles.

Matthew 7:1-4 Stop judging. For whatever judgement you judge, so shall you be judged. Why are you trying to remove the straw from your brother's eye, when you have a rafter in yours. It would be better to first remove the rafter from your own eye before you say to your brother let me remove the straw from his eye. Everyone just needs to mind his or her own business, and leave others alone. They have to answer to God for whatever they do, not you, society, nor any other human on this planet!!!!

We are more tolerant of others' views and lifestyles. However in the black community we are taught that homosexuality is a sin. So whereas we may love the sinner, we hate the sin. It just seems to me that the Black community is more religiously rooted than some white communities.

P.S.
I haven't met many axe murderers in the black community, that is predominately a WASP (serial killers) crime.

power,
I think its men in general, but its about power.
a man who has killed is powerful
a man who is gay is femine, is weak.
( this is the perception)
a man who is "manly" who does manly things,
thats who I want to be,
I want to rule my kingdom by the might of my hand.
And most of the gay men portrayed in the media are femine,
are "ewww, I touched that" are more emotional, ( and to many men, openly emotional is weakness)
I slammed my head into a wall when I tripped,
but I'm a man, It didn't hurt!
"shoot, that hurt a lot, I need to lay down"?
that ain't no man.

Its a pride thing. A lot of blck men are insecure in their manhood as it is, and they see it as even worse if you are gay.
