Also, what is the farthest humans have dug toward the center of the earth?
And what is the farthest we COULD dig?

Thank you.

A better alternative than obtaining warm air is using the soil as insulation against the cold and heat. By running a closed loop water/antifreeze line via a geothermal heat pump, you could heat and cool your house.

The deepest we have bored into the earth is 12,262 meters via the Kola deep bore hole project in Russia. This currently appears to be the deepest we can expect to drill on land due to the extremely high temperatures (356 degrees F).

Only about 10 ft, but you have to provide a thermally conductive duct with a fan to draw in outside air through the warm earth to pick up the heat. It also depends on where you live and how cold it gets in the winter. I was in an under-construction storm sewer about 50 ft deep and it was about 85 F deg.

It depends on where you live. The geothermal gradient is different everywhere. It's the increase in temperature for every unit of depth as you go deeper. Find out the geothermal gradient of the location you are, then determine what it would take to heat your house. Then you have an answer.

To the center of the earth. the only way you could heat your house is if you live near a geothermal heat source such as a volcano. Iceland uses it geothermal to heat all the homes in Reykjavik.

You'd have to dig pretty deep to heat your house. i don't know how far we have been but we could only dig to the mantle.
