I knew this about him. He's a cool dude! There is not reason pot should not be legal. This is a Big Bunch of Bu-l Sh-t I have ever saw. Pot grows wild and is not a drug! It is natural and causes less problems than alcohol does. If I choose to drink gasoline, is this not my business? Smoking pot is a moral issue, and has nothing to do with anything other than violates your rights you are supposed to have!! I could go on and on and on, about this crap, but I will spare you. I just know it is wrong for them to make it illegal to begin with. Have Fun!!

Wrong. He suggested we decriminalize pot which is different. Cops wouldn't have been after people with an ounce or two in their pockets, but just the big growers. Millions of people would never had had criminal records or crowded our jails.

They could have freed up our legal resources on that issue so they could concentrate on harder drugs.

You also have to understand that the pot available during Carter's administration was not as strong or as addictive as what we have today. Growers have been breeding and crossing plants to make them more powerful for the past thirty years. The original hemp plant available during WWII would hardly give you a buzz by comparison.

Same this has happened with tobacco. The tobacco our colonial fathers smoked was a lot less concentrated and a lot less processed. Back then smoking a pipe after dinner was a social thing and not a constant addicition.

No, he didn't. NORMAL used a quote of his in print ads where he expressed the opinion that small amounts of pot should be decriminalized. He never actively campaigned as president to legalize pot for general usage.

I don't think so. The Republicans would still be mentioning this, immediately after the words "Monica Lewinsky".
