You will write the best paper about something that interests you. What stirs you up or gets you talking? Avoid subjects that have been over-argued (like abortion and the death penalty) unless you have something new to add to the debate.

Try to think of some problems that need to be solved--usually these are surrounded in controversy over how to solve them. For example, how should we deal with teenage criminals? Should a teenager be charged as an adult in a serious crime? How can we be sure that students graduate from high school with a high school education? Should we require students to take "exit" exams or are those unfair to some students?

Start brainstorming for a list of problems and then pick something that you are interested in.

An essay is a short work of writing that treats a topic from an author's personal point of view. Essays are non-fictional but often subjective; while expository, they can also include narrative. Essays can be learned arguments, literary criticism, political manifestos, observations of daily life, recollections and reflections of the author.
The definition of an essay is vague, overlapping with those of an article and a short story. Almost all modern essays are written in prose, but works in verse have been dubbed essays (Alexander Pope's An Essay on Criticism and An Essay on Man). While today an essay is partly defined by its brevity, voluminous works like John Locke's An Essay Concerning Human Understanding and Thomas Malthus's An Essay on the Principle of Population refer to themselves using the term.

Write about the supportable allegation that the history of the Catholic Church for the first 3 centuries is a lie.

1) There is no evidence that Peter was ever in Rome, let alone the first "Pope".
2) In Acts it's clear that the leader was JAMES, not Peter.
3) The Bishop of Rome was not recognized as being pre-eminent over all of Christendom. He was no more important than Bishops of other major cities. Evidence: He did not pronounce doctrine binding on other cities. He did not appoint their bishops-- these were elected by congregations, and ratified by area bishops. Church councils were called by other bishops, not the Bishop of Rome.
4) The Catholic Church cannot really be said to exist until the 4th Century, when the government took over Christianity. The first REAL pope was Inn0cent I, in the 5th century, who first claimed pre-eminence over all other bishops.
5) The term "Pope" was taken from the phrase "pontifex maximus" which was used to describe the Emperor.
6) The all-important Council of Nicaea was not called by the Bishop of Rome, but by the Emperor, which shows the takeover of Christianity by the state. It was not presided over by the Bishop of Rome, nor by any appointed representative, but by Bishop Ossius of Cordova, who was the personal assistant to Constantine for religious matters.

Are you kidding?

The war in Iraq. Exchanging personal freedom for national security. Abortion. The death penalty. The "war on drugs" and the legalization of marijuana. Gun control. The welfare system. Immigration.

Pick up any newspaper in the world, you'll get some ideas.

That people should be paid a salary plus free tuition if they qualify for college. It will get the most talented people and get them to study. It will also get high school students to study if they have college as earning a living to look forward to instead of four years of working without pay and living like a 12-year-old.

animal testing- how far should companies go in using animal testing. For example, hospitals use animals to find cures for diseases such as cancer, medical companies can use animals to test meds from asprin to cancer drugs. Make up companies use animals to test mascarra and lipstick. What are the cost/benefits of this and is it ethical for the people to test animals for non life saving products.
