Check out Hal Higdon's program.

Depending on where you are, there may be a local running club that sponsors a program. I know the Chicago Area Runner's Association has regular half marathon and marathon training programs.

There are many different training programs. It depends on whether you are just wanting to complete the course or do a fast time?

If you can run 8-10 miles during normal training then you should have no problem finishing a half-marathon.

Try to fit in some interval training - run fast - jog - run fast and some hill work to improve stamina and recovery time.

Make sure you stretch and warm up and stretch and warm down.

I have been running for 8 years now and would recommend for you the following: I would strengthen the core: calves, quads, hams, back and abdominal (the "six pack" muscles along with the obleks), chest and arms. But when strengthening these muscles, I would focus more on the muscle endurance not the muscle bulk. For more advice for this, I would consult with a personal trainer. For the running part, I would stay flexible as it helps/contributes to your balance (so do the muscles in your core) but also helps prevent some injuries like pulled muscles and shin splints. Also, I would try to make up a schedule where you can run for X amount of days and try to have a long run. I would start off slowly, running about 2-3 miles per run for the first week and increase my mileage per week. Make sure you have the following: a good diet, hydration, sleep, a good sense on how to take care of your body, and sleep. Good Luck!!!

Lifehacker.com has several good posts and links that should help. The site's running a little slow right now but try searching their site for "running" and "marathon" and I think you'll find some good, helpful information.

Good luck.

Google it. There are all kinds of training programs that people offer on-line. Does anyone use search engines anymore?
