unfortunately I have very little to go on. It was from the 70's/early 80's I believe. Had sounds of battle (shooting etc) in the background in parts. A very high voiced singer. Was on the radio alot so it must have been a 'hit' of some kind.
Sorry it is so vague (hence the trouble finding it)

Male singer... the higher pitched stuff may mostly have been in the chorus

You could try yahoo, google, or msn and type in any familiar words you may know of from the lyrics of the song....it should recognize something.

I'm not sure if this song had any battle (shooting) in it, but it was called something like "I hope the Russians Love Their Children Too" by Sting
Another song that was a hit I think it was about war, was "Forever Young" by Alphaville or maybe "Nineteen" by Falco. Sorry can't think of anything else without more info. Good Luck.
