His competitors are other grocery stores and convience stores in the local area. The rest of the things he did were to differentiate his products so people would shop at his store instead of his competitors. That is called getting a competitive advantage. But the competitors are always people operating in the same industy (food) AND offering the same goods or services (groceries)
