I know I'm giving away my age here, but I think it would be Carole King's "Tapestry." There are more songs on it that became #1 hits and have been remade by other artists than any other album I own. The song writing was top-notch and she had the best voice for that generation of singers.

Radiohead: The Bends. It came out of nowhere (a little British indie band sho seemed destined for second division status on the basis of their first album) with a sound like nothing else arouns at the time. Roaring guitar lines, broken dream vocals, an amazingly strong set of songs that have stood up to everything (except being covered by Jamie Cullum, but then what does stand up to that???), a superb production quality and supported by being an outstanding live outfit.... Unlikely to be bettered on my greatest ever list (though i did suspect for about 15 seconds that the new Muse might stand up in the same way, but it's not sufficiently different to the last album to be quite the revelation - no pun intended- of The Bends).

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
They made every song on this album sound great,
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers have written and recorded some of the most memorable rock anthems of a generation. They have sold more than 50-million records and have been nominated for 16 Grammy Awards. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. Plus yes I doo love them!

"The Black Album", by Metallica from1991. Not only is it the most complete heavy rock album, but it broke the band into the mainstream. Enter Sandman is probably the best heavy video ever released. That thumping bass drum rocks! Some albums have fillers to complete it, Not this one!

The Red Hot Chili Pepper's Album "Blood Sugar Sex Magik". It's always been the album that I just can't get enough of! Killer bass lines...it's funky as hell! It's also fun to sing along to, and drive to! I really respect them as a band!
