It might be easier to use a data search program. Rolling your computer around to different save points can really do a number in XP's performance in the long run, and it's tedious.
There a number of programs which acutally do sector searches on your drive. Basically, all files (not corrupted) will remain on your drive, unless they have been overwritten with other data.
When you delete a file, it's actually not physically erased from your system, it's just removed from your OS's memory. Imagine a chalkboard. When you write on it in chalk, it leaves a mark. If you use an eraser to clear your information, there is still a ghost of your writing left. You can usually still read it, until that portion of the chalkboard gets written on again.
Using a data recovery program will search every sector of your drive and give you a list of every file it finds still intact, even if it has been deleted.
A good one is File Scavenger, I've seen it find things other programs couldn't. This would be the beset option as you only have to run it once, and it will tell you every file it can find.

System restore didn't loose your files, maybe the files was hide something like that. Try to do something.
Go open your Control panel , click tools and click radion button saying Show Hidden files and folder and click Ok. and search your files again. Or visit this website and download this program and install this in your computer.

System restore doesn't delete any regular files; it may have moved them to where they were before the restore. Do a search and you'll find them.

Try the SEARCH button on your desktop, maybe they're still there but if the OS (operating system) was reinstalled, 90% of the time no files can be saved, sorry.

AOL...? isn't that from the dinosaur era, with the little yellow working guy...? computers are very fragile, like use, what you probably did become equivalent of a individual being hit with a baseball bat and completely dropping a number of their significant suggestions :(

If you know the filenames, use the Search option found in your Start menu.
