There are chemicals that you can buy to treat ponds, pools, and fish tanks. You want to have some algae though. Like cholesterol there is good algae and bad. Take a trip to the local hardware store and they should be able to send you in the right direction to purchase it.

i take advantage of an algae killer by FountainTec it truly is secure for fish, frogs, birds, organic world and my 2 Eskie canines who imagine any water function is there for them to drink. It merely takes about a cap finished of the answer per week to regulate the algae boom. i purchase it at objective, besides the very undeniable truth that i have considered it at fountain, waterfall and pond vendors and some nurseries.

I used to subscribe to Organic Gardening magazine as I used to garden organically. There was an article one time about this same subject. It said to wheat or alfalfa straw tied in bundles and in burlap sacks and to sink them in the pond and that would take care of that problem and keep it from growing. I just can't be sure which straw they said use. You might try finding their website and asking them about this issue. Be careful if you use chemicals as they can cause you not to be able to catch and consume fish from the pond for some time.

Buy a couple of alage eaters.. They are fish who eat algae and keep the fish pond or tank clean.
They arent as expensive as buying chemicals to clean it.

without chemicals?
Check with your county agent, you might be able to add triploid carp to your pond to eat it.
