What does it mean when a woman wears a ring (usually a simple gold band) on pinky finger?

I guess fashion doesn't really need reason so I guess she likes gold...or, she is in some exotic, secret club and they have to wear the ring there or else they may be forced to wear toe rings.

She either gained a lot of weight or she just likes the ring on that finger .
