It is a book written by Dan Brown. The premise of the book is that DaVinci was a member of a secret society charged with protecting the off-spring of Jesus and Mary. There was also a counter-society charged with destroying their off-spring, there by setting up the classic "good vs. evil" drama. The book is well written, however, I'm not going to comment on the validity of the premise.

The DaVinci Code is a fiction novel based on the Catholic church and the different segments of Catholic followers. It is a mystery and while it uses real places and bases it's story on some factual people, places and things it is strictly a fictional novel.
