Because your nail roots are damaged, I've got the same when a machine decided to plough into my finger whe I was 16.
Nowt you can do about it. Mine's been there for 24 years so there is no chance they will repair.

The nail bed has been damaged and ur body has over produced nail tissue to help the natural recovery process. But even after the dog bite has healed, your body mite still be producing it and the ridges are the result of this. On the other hand, fungal infections and calcium dificiencies can cause discolouration of the nail and cause ridges from the cuticle to the tip. Some people can also get white marks on their nails as well. Hope this helps!!!

Sounds like you damaged your nail bed when the dog bit you. You cannot repair this damage, but you can buy a buffer to file your nail down a bit. This is a 4 sided sponge with different buffers on each side. You file it down and then one side will be for shining your nail up. It really makes a difference, I do this to one of my nails as there are 2 deep ridges from root to tip from when I jammed it in a door and you can hardly see it. Normally ridges going across your nail show signs of stress or lack of nutrition. Eating a cube of jelly every day will help to strenghten your nails and make them healthier.

Damage to the root or tissues surrounding the nail bed
Fungus or infection
Poor diet, deficient in some minerals
Thyroid deficiency, though the last 2 would affect more than just the one nail.

The most common cause is
repetitive and prolonged wetting and drying of the nails. Trauma to the
fingers is also a cause. Using nail polish remover can cause it as well.
In some cases, abnormal fingernails may indicate a systemic disease such
as one involving the heart or lungs. Some people may inherit their nails
from their parents. Another cause could be vitamin or nutritional
deficiency - that would be rare in our country. I hope this helps.

I have the same problem, it is damage to the nail root, the only solution is to buff the nail surface to reduce the ridges.

all of my nails were like that a few years ago and i was told it was down to stress, which at the time i was. Since then i have been happier and they went flat again, but occassionally i have noticed when stressed for long periods ( uni exams and the like with 4 kids) they have started to go again. So try to relax and will be ok

maybe when the dog bit you it damaged the nail bed beneath the nail, this would cause the nail to grow with ridges.
