Perhaps you are introducing the speaker who is giving the seminar? Find someone around you who communicates well and ask them to coach you. If you can't do that, just say his name (pronounced correctly) and let him introduce himself. It will save you from embarrassment, and you can work on your communication skills later, with new motivation.

Since your seminar is of a technical nature you really don't need to worry about having that wonderful line to start of to finish your seminar.

If it was a motivational seminar, a sales presentation, or something of that nature than you should be concerned about that.

Technical seminars attract the technical community and the technical community isn't there to get motivated or pumped up, they are going to your seminar to get technical information.

Sure... but your question say's you are taking the seminar.... but it sounds like you might be giving a seminar?
I have attended numerous seminars and the ones I find to be most enjoyable and effective... are those done off the cuff..
Don't plan a speech. Start prior to the seminar make your rounds chat, introduce yourself get a little one on one going. Then to start the seminar... introduce yourself.... and be creative!

When giving a presentation, writing a paper, or anything where you wish to share information, the sound, tried and true way to start off is:

First, specify the purpose of the presentation, paper, etc.

EXAMPLE: The purpose of this presentation is to explain global warming, its impact, and to solicit your help in preventing it.

Second, give background info on why what you are about to present is important and why your audience can use that info.

EXAMPLE: Global warming has been going on in cycles for millions of years. But this latest cycle has far exceeded any warming of all the previous cycles. The off the chart results of this latest cycle could have far reaching disasterous effects, including extinction of some species. But we, you and I, can do something about this and turn it around.

Third, outline up front what you are about to tell your audience.

Fourth, tell it or write it as you outlined it.

Fifth, recap or summarize the highlights of what you said and if the audience is expected to respond or react to your info, specify what you expect them to do.

Key ideas include:
- Pace yourself, that means practice it once, in front of someone who doesnt understand the material, and have them guide you on not going to fast and not being incomprehensible.
- Dont cram three tons of formulas into a single page. At best a single page can hold 5 related ideas.
- Speak to the three learning styles: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. Have a paper copy available they can mark up, speak key points, have key points written in symbols like words and equations, and have graphs, charts, or photos.
- Say what you are going to say, say it, and say what you said.
- Ask for questions, listen, ask a clarifying counter-question if needed, and then answer. Be willing to say "I dont know" if you dont know.. its better to appear like you are still learning and are genuine than like you are a know-it-all who doesnt know it all, and doesnt know it.
- have fun. Present on something you love and are passionate about.
