Why did muslims get upset when the pope criticised them and why was their reaction of anger and hate?

It's only a small minority that are so vocal and extreme. I'm amused by the fact that if you accuse them of being intolerant they immediately become intolerant proving your case.

Because they jumped to the wrong conclusion.

If they had listened they would have known that the Pope was quoting from something said a long long time ago.

Actually, he was saying that all religions should respect each other.

Muslims will just have to realise that they are no different from the rest of us and stop bullying all who are not Muslims. They seem to be able to say what they like, hurtful or not, and not be challenged. Yet when the Pope was trying to talk of peace, and more tolerance of each other, and used an old quote to help with his talk, they half listen, Accuse him of something that he never said and go mad again. It is not fair.

As Lee D said they do not like the truth. I am pretty sure you would do the same if the pope called you evil be cause of what you believe in.
Muslims, they get very pissed off easy and they hate everything except what they are doing, they hate change and they want world domination. Ala is the first and only god, and he came before our god.
Wrong, there is only and only one god in this world, and there god is the same as ours, but of course for saying that I will die. You could pick a rock up off the ground and then exchange it for a quarter or a piece of something and be shot for it, why be cause you changed it.
They don't just hate us, they hate every one, and in my opinion the pope was right, they are evil they use god to kill innocent people just to show how stupid they really are.

i think of the reaction to those comments has purely proved the Pope's element. i'm hoping all human beings is paying interest to this, such as you're. additionally pay interest to how different religions react while they are criticized. Many Christians, somewhat Catholics, have been deeply offended by ability of the present DaVinci Code action picture and e book. Have any theaters been blown up? Any bookstores burned down? Any demands Dan Brown's head on a platter? Mature religions can manage criticism with out resorting to violence.

Talk is cheap.
Cheap that it spares anther's life.
Cheap that only personal feeling my temporary disappointment which should direct one into more soul searching.
It seems the Muslims would rather see Christans blew themselves up to become the same type of martyrs compared to become a martyr of ones beliefs which fuels revenge so sweetly.
The pope did recite words of a person from the past about Muslims, and they still seem not have changed as much as Christan faiths have since changed from that time.

It seems to me the whole ***** country has got religion all of a sudden.

If there is any God fearing people out there, what do you think he is thinking?
And don't quote what you have read or been told.

In the corner of your heart and in your own room without anybody influencing you, do you believe in God or in another human being??
Why do you need another human being anyway?

Do your really feel at one with God without external forces.
Could you give yourself to him without confirmation from others?

I don't follow any religion but I am aware we have been given a life and that it is my duty and wish to honour that gift.

Because it was an excuse for the Evil Bastards who term themselves "Religious Leaders " to inflame the Muslim Fraternity - World Wide - and fan the flames of Discord, Hate, and Evil , to further promote Violence , Destruction and Murder , and put the whole Muslim Fraternity at Odds with the rest of the Free World. The pope didn't criticise, he quoted a 15th Century person. It was just taken out of context. What was meant that religion should be spread by love, not violence.

What if the Pope started quoting anti-Semitic verses from one of Hitler's speeches? How would the Jewish people react? What if he took a stand for the KKK? How would African Americans react? The Pope has been given a lot of power. His word is power. His comment about Islam is not unlike smoking while you fill up you car at the gas station.
