Hello- There have been reliable studies done showing a link between pitocin given to induce or speed up labor and autism. It is important to remember though that correlation does not equal causation. Some researchers believe that the child would have been born with Autism with or without the pitocin, but that the the need for the pitocin may indicate a problem. Here's my take (I have a son w/autism and was given pitocin) why use it when you dont have to? It is the most widely abused drug in the US used in the vast majority of births.

The studies are pointing to a genetic factor with the possibility of environmental exposure to toxins as the 'trigger' for austism specrtum disorders. Pitocin has not been implicated as one of them...unless it contains the perservative thimerasol.
Look to the family history for autism, Aspergers and 'odd' behavior in the family, especially in those of the same gender...
