The soundtrack is all lengthy synth workouts and 'rock' based music performed by old men with beards ( late 70's Who). Hardly Mod music is it? I like it though!

i just find it puzzling that one of the most uniformed and strictest youth cultures can obsess about a film with the most unlikely music - The Who were mods in the 60's but you could never say that 'The Rock' or 'Love Reign On Me' were mod classics in the same way as some 60's soul or even 'I Can't Explain'. It's a good film though innit?

Which mods do you mean the original ones or the second or thrid or fourth wave. Quadrophenia was not truly accurate and their parkas where naff but phil daniels captured the essence. Original mods do not worship Quadrophenia but are bemused that there is some respect for the feeling and the time. There were ace faces but Sting really was too ugly and too old. In fact real mods called themselves individualists. We liked motown and stax blue beat and the small faces not the who. The who got respect later on because they survived. The small faces and stevie marriot were the real deal. Quadrophenia is for the thrid wavers.

Yes, what a kickass cd! Man, I still can't believe how good it is. Entwhistle contributed a lot to this CD and it really shows on songs like "The Real Me". Some of the best rock bass ever.
But it isn't really mod music at all. The Who had progressed past Mod to Rock Icons at this point in 1974 (the original album release date).

You are wrong, The Who did the soundtack, and they were Mod icons. Although the film got some details wrong, i.e some of the music in the film wouldn't appeal to mods, and some of the blokes didn't look like mods, the film itself is fab.

For the same reason old-school punks seem to idolise the Clash's 'London Calling'. That is, it's neither the first punk album, nor the best. But over time it's become the most iconic, and the most representative of the movement.

It was a moment in time film......very british, i dont think your average Jo from America would enjoy it, cult film, so many bands went onto great success from this film, the jam, sham 69, undertones, and the Who (roger daltry) went abit flower power in the 70's, but hardly rock, classic film. Will hold its own with clockwork orange and scarface as far as im concerned.

Because it just has this really cool atmosphere and mood about it that is very typical of the time, plus Phil Daniels has so much charisma as an actor.
