Someone told me to feed him cereal before he sleeps but his doctor told me not to feed him for for six months... could he be waking up earlier because he's ready for food? He's been sleeping through the night since he was 2 weeks ( i know i'm lucky) but now he's been waking up hours before he use to and sleeping more during the day... He's also a lot more cranky with this new schedule. Any suggestions?

Be aware that there's evidence that feeding solids too soon can increase the likelyhood of allergic reactions. I'd check again with your baby's doctor before giving cereal to him. The bottom line is you're the mom and if you feel he needs more substinence, give it to him. I'd start with a teaspoon in the bottle, not a tablespoon though. If he's sleeping more during the day, expose him to more light. I've noticed that if we go outside during the afternoon for a nice walk, my son is more likely to sleep better at night.

During the day play with him more so he doesn't sleep as much or entertain him. The doctors usually say not to feed them before six months but i did the samething as u my son was eating alot and not sleeping as much so i was giving him cereal also for him to sleep more during the night. Nothing happened to my baby if anything my son is very healthy. I think the babies usually start eating at three months new born baby food but if u feel comfortable listening to the doctor then that is best. Just play with the baby more to keep him up so he can go back to his schedule again.

I have a 8 month old and came across this problem at about 4 months too. The doc may say not to feed your child cereal till six months but you can try it. Mix some cereal in water so it is quite liquidy. try a few spoonfools(2-3) if he pushes it out with his tongue he is not ready. Babies have a reflex to keep them from choking when they are not ready to swallow. Also try schedulingnaps during the day. There is a book called Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child. It gave me the sleep i needed and allowed my child a better night and day too. good luck.

Well, I know I will get a lot of thumbs down for this, but give him cereal in his bottle before bed. I put it in my son's from the time he was about 9 weeks old. Just a few table spoons in his bed time bottle. I asked my son's doctor and she said it was fine; just watch for any allergic reactions. My son sleeps great through the night and is currently on stage 2 foods with absolutely no problem and he will be 5 month old this week. You are his mom and you have the final decision. Just go with your gut; do what you think is best. I would try to solve this problem quickly or it will only get worse. Good Luck!

I fed my baby at 4 months. My doctor said to just give her two table spoons of cereal at night. Make it like applesauce. I think 6 months is way to long to wait for cereal or any food. After 4 months you need to open that throat up with something else other then formula. My baby never slept through the night. No matter what I do she still gets up for that late night bottle. I'm use to it now. Good luck!

Don't feed him cereal until the doctor okays it. Is he waking up crying? If not, you might let him lay there for a little while if he's content. You might also check his diapers. He could be waking up because his diaper is soaked. You might look for a more absorbent one for nightime. Try not to let him sleep so long during the day. If you go ahead and wake him up from his nap a little earlier, he might sleep better at night.

I would put a couple tablespoons of cereal in his formula to see how he does. Both my kids had formula in their bottles at that age. Be sure to get a cross-cut nipple (or do it yourself) to make sure the bottle flows with the cereal bulk.

You need to keep him up during the day more. This way he is tired more at night. Try rubbing the palms of his hands and the arches of his feet. It always worked for my son.
