The beginning of the repair is the diagnosis. The computer can only communicate with you by means of this light.
To identify the failure or fault, you must retrieve and understand the trouble codes stored in the computer (ECM).

...and scroll down beyond the definitions chart for the procedure for gathering the codes.
The connector they are talking about is on the driver's side of the car under the dashboard, and isn't hidden.
With a paperclip, follow the procedure to gather the codes. They will flash the "Check Engine" light three timed for each code. If there are more than one, they will cycle through all of them, and when you see a code "12" the second time around, they have all been identified.
The codes represent a failure or fault identified in a particular circuit or system, and do NOT necessarily represent a failed component. It is therefore important to run proper diagnostics to determine the correct course of repair.

Good Luck

The check engine light comes on when one of the many sensors it monitors sends a signal outside the range it expects to receive. Ignore any and all answers that claim "O² sensor is bad" or anything else. Take it in to somewhere where they can read the error codes stored in memory, and then you will know what needs to be done. Also please ignore all suggestions to "Disconnect your battery for 10 minutes" since all that will do is erase the information the mechanic will need to give you a good diagnosis.

I would have a mechanic check the engine. Something may be lose or need replacing. It is better to have a mechanic check you car out, before the problem gets bigger, and possibly more expensive.

Fram oil filters used to say, "You can pay me a little now, or a lot later".
