You need to show up at restaurants and apply with resume' in hand.
In this resume', include a cover letter selling yourself ! Make the establishments WANT you with your words.
Greet the manager or who will be doing the hiring, face to face, stressing your desire to work in such a setting. Tell them you will not let them down. Prove that you can be molded to THEIR ways of cooking / preparing ( no one wants to hire a person claiming to know it all and thinks they can out show the restaurant itself )
I, personally, wanted to hire rookies for I could show them the way I wanted it done... not the way the schools showed them or numerous other restaurants showed them.
Get out there and don't give up ! Someone will pick up on your determination !
Good Luck ! : )

There shoule be job postings at your school or a job counselor. Until you finish school, you aren't going to be hired as a chef. Get some experience doing something in a restaurant so that the next job will see that you are willing to work your way up and learn.

look for preping work in a good established restaurant- that way you can be learning the ropes and going to school at the same time.
try your local classifieds and just look through the yellow pages and give restaurants a call- a good place to start would be any casinos, large hotels, golf courses, or resorts.
could also look into cooking at schools, hospitals, and nursing homes
there should be someone at your school that would help you with this- ask your counselor, financial advisor, or teachers for help

Perhaps ask if they'll let you be an intern for say three months for you to gain experience. Wouldn't people at the culinary school you attend be able to refer you to people who might hire you?

Be a Dishwasher?
That would get you in, and you'd learn about who's who.
Maybe after you graduate, your teacher might be able to help.
