Shouldn't the Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgendered category be under Family & Relationships? Instead we are relegated to Society and Culture/ Cultures and Groups, under which LGBT is the only category! It is really well hidden and not intuitive to find. I only found it when I saw and LGBT question, and the category was laid out then. Do you agree it should be visable in the first level of society & culture at least, rather than the second level. Also, would you prefer it to be in Family and Relationships? If not, where would you put it? And how could we go around persuading Yahoo Answers to change its location?

You're right, there isn't a "straight" section because 90% of the population is straight. LGBT people often have specific questions that only other LGBT people can answer. I don't have a chip on my shoulder, i'm just not ashamed and don't want to be hidden away like an embarrassing relative. The category is non-intuitve and as such, of limited use.

Maybe there should be a section for people who think they are too fat or too skinny. I'm all for that.

I have had difficulty before in locating this category for a question that I posted a while back. I think that if it is in society and culture that there should be a long list of other cultures and LGBT should not be the only one! I think Family and Relationships would be a good place to put it, but I am sure a lot of right-wingers would throw a fit about it. I think the best way to persuade Yahoo! Answers to switch it is to write them an email explaining why you think it's in the wrong category. I think it is just kind of secluded in the category it's in... maybe it's purposeful and maybe it's not?

I would put it visibly in family and relationships AND society and culture as the lgbt not only have relationships, but there is history and culture within this group. I am not any of those things, but I am interested in their role in history and forming society and as I have several gay and trans friends I DO sometimes know the answer to a relationship dilemma.

Yes, I agree totally with you. What sort of world are we in if we are the main culture & group section. I'm fine with the society bit and/or family relationships section.
Its the bullfighting section that pisses me off more!
Finally, the advantage is that the homophobes have to dig down too and it probably prevents more hassle!

I also felt it should be under Family and Relationships, but then I thought there are loads of LGBT issues that aren't particularly Family or Relationship. But I do feel that we've been stuck in a hidden back room.

Yeah, I think it's a bit closeted, if you will!
I'd like to see this joined by two other LGBT categories--one in politics (for debate on issues like same-sex marriage) and one in relationships (for our relationships.) This section is asked to do too much.
Kelly, I was made to feel very unwelcome in the general relationships section. And same-sex relationships have their own unique issues ("What do I do when she keeps borrowing my earrings?" "How can we stop being evil to each other during that time of the month when we share a cycle?" "What about our homophobic relatives at Christmas?", etc.)
My most charitable thought is that they're trying to hide us from 'phobes. Which clearly isn't working.
We need to keep asking, in our questions (the YA category!), on their forum, etc.

Yes I think maybe it should be in the family and relationships bit, but er hang on, do they have a hetero section there? No, they dont, they have a singles and dating, which is for everybody, dont look so deeply into things, or you will make yourself sound like you have a chip on your shoulder, if you look hard enough, you will see there are lots of sections that are really well hidden, Im not trying to be nasty but its true hun, Why isnt there a section specificall for straight people??? Or fat people?? Or skinny people???? Think about it.

Yes I agree with you.. also I would like to see it moved so that I don't keep getting the religious questions on my screen at the same time...when I go to the Glbt section those are the answers I want...I don't want religious propoganda every time I answer a question...they keep putting it on the screen tho'...makes you wonder...or makes you stop wondering about y/a

It does seem we're like the embarrassing relative you put in the corner and hope no one notices or disturbs.
Hell even, the Bullfighting category is more prominent than LGBT!

Look down on the bottom of this page on the left hand corner. there is a link from Yahoo asking how to improve this site. Cut & paste this question and send it along to them. In fact everyone should complain to them. I'll start, ok?
