I am planning on a road trip from Mumbai along the highway to Goa, The idea is not really yo get to anyplace but to enjoy the ride. May plan to spend the night at Chiplun or maybe someplace else if that is a better option

Looking for tips on interesting / offbeat place enroute (or even a diversion from the main highway)

Ya the pune route is good (pune...Satara... Karad... Kolhapur... Amboli Ghat... Sawantwadi... Goa)

Else u can go...

Bombay to Panvel (have chai at welcome with hot batata wada)

Panvel to Roha or Alibag (have sea food in Alibag)

Then to Harihareshwar or Ganpati Pule (spend the night here)

From there back to Ratnagir on the Bombay Goa high way

Then halt at sangamneshwar for food...

Then Banda for tea in the evening and then in 2 hours u will be in Mapsa (goa)

if u take this route do tell me how u enjoied it....

You can take NH 17 from Panvel. Up to Panvel you can go by NH4; On this NH 17, Mumbai Goa Highway, you can take a left turn before Mahad, and proceed to Raigad. Go to Raigad by ropeway. You will enjoy the beauty. You can stay on the Raigad fort either in the MTDC cottages, or the accomodation provided by Jog Engineering, the company that has erected the ropeway and is operating it.

Next you can go to Ratnagiri. Instead of staying at Ratnagiri proper you can if you choose stay at Ganapati Pule.
