Actually "Kreevich", the NRA is wholly non-partisan, and many of its 4 million plus members are loyal Democrats. You'll also find that the NRA supports Democrats who support gun-owners' rights, including Senator Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas. You won't find many of these, because the "Democratic" platform is so avidly against possession of firarms by American citizens.

People talk about abortion and gay rights as being a litmus test. For me the litmus test is gun control. No one for gun control will get my vote. If you have ever read a bumper sticker you know when you can take my gun.

I am a firearm sportsman and proud, responsible gun owner. I am not yet old enough to vote, but when I am this will be one of my deciding factors. Having "a well regulated militia" of armed citizens is what ensures freedom. If all the anti-gunners looked back at history they would see all of the atrocities and massacres that happened when citizens could not adequately defend themselves. here's a list of SOME...

In 1929 the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929-1953, approx.
20 million people were rounded up and exterminated.

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915-1917, 1.5 million Armenians were rounded up and exterminated.

Germany established gun control in 1938. From 1939-1945, 13 million Jews, gypsies and others were rounded up and exterminated.

China established gun control in 1935. From 1948-1952, 20 million political
dissidents were rounded up and exterminated.

Guatemala established gun control in 1964. from 1964-1981, 100,000 Mayan
Indians were rounded up and exterminated.

Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971-1979, 300,000 Christians
were rounded up and exterminated.

Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975-1977, one million “educated” people were rounded up and exterminated.

That places total victims who lost their lives because they couldn't defend themselves because of gun control at approximately 56 million in the last century.

People need to realize that an armed population is hard to opress. I have several of my favorite pro-gun quotes in my profile, but one I created is "An armed nation is a free nation, but an un-armed nation is doomed to tyranny.

"Eeek! They're going to take away our hunting rifles!" is a bugaboo they whip up every election year to get Republican votes. It's not going to happen! So it isn't about "gun rights" at all-- it's about raising paranoid hackles to get support for a comprehensive right-wing agenda that has nothing to do with guns! PROOF: They always support the Republican candidate, even when the Democrat is against more gun regulations, even when he's amember of the NRA!

My husband is a sportsman and a law-abiding gun owner and would vote against anyone that tried to take that right away from him. I would vote the same way. Take away the guns from the law-abiding people, but the criminals will still find a way to get theirs and we wouldn't have any way to defend ourselves.
