I agree with joost and smack. How can you fight an idea? Bomber those who are called terrorists? That brings about more terrorists. Detain forever those who are called terrorists? That, too, will lead to more terrorists. Torture, you get the idea. You have to solve the issues the terrorists have, or at least address them. All dubya and the neocons are doing is getting the rest of the world to hate them more. Bush says he doesn't care what the rest of the world thinks. I understand that, but if you keep walking into other peoples houses and pissing all over their floors, are you gonna be surprised when nobody invites you in anymore? He still shares the rest of the planet with these other countries. I doubt that even in their wildest dreams the US has the military might to keep the whole world under its thumb. It will have to learn to play well with others. Funny how Canada never gets attacked, don't you think? At least until the joined in the Afghanistan" fight.

So in answer to your question, no, the isn't a war on terror. The current war is in reality an attack on those nations that the US government doesn't like.

How can anyone fight a war against a concept? Terror is not physical, you cannot destroy it, hence you cannot fight a war against it. One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. Plenty of people out there who believe that the US and the UK commit more acts of terror against civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan than the Taliban or Iraqi insurgents do. Trying to see everything in black and white, good and evil, terrorists and freedom fighters, is a naive simplification.
