you must submit your site to these search engines. To do that go here (free submission to 34 search engines)

Also, if you are ready do pay so that your site appears as sponsored link at search engines when quering for specific keywords go here

(at the bottom right go to Google Adwords)

Use your keywords. List important words in the meta tag for "keywords" and the make coherent sentence out of them for the meta description. Also, actually use the keywords in the content of your webpages. You can put stuff about dogs in your keywords list, but unless you specifically give information about dogs using those keywords, your website won't show up in searches for dogs (and it would look kind of bad for your website anyway, just making my point).
Be sure to set your "spider" permissions. Search engines use virtual "spiders" to find websites. While the technology involving the spiders has lost the spotlight, it's still there and going great.
The most important factor is making sure you do have content. While you don't have to give every detail about how and what you do, don't be scarce. Once you have the content, then focus on making the pages look appealing. The better the balance, the better the chances you have of getting attention. While the regular crawling methods do have importance, nothing says your popular by having other reputable websites linking to yours.

Investigate the "source" to get more details and a better understanding of what I said.

How about sharing the link to that page, Karen, so we can look at it.

Since I can't, my guess it you need to build meta tags for key words. So you place the key words you anticipate people to type into the search engines like "rental house" or "rental howse" or "rental houses chicago".

Also, your should have some referential text in it. <br /> <br /> And lastly, submit your site to the search engines. </p> <p> <small> 2006-09-27 04:24:07 · <a href="#answer20060927042407">answer #4</a> · <span>answered by <u>wrathofkublakhan</u> <b>6</b></span> · <span>0<span style='color:green;'>⤊</span></span> <span>0<span style='color:red;'>⤋</span></span> </small> </p> </div> <div id="answer20060927042333" class='answer' > <!-- <b>Answer #5</b> --> <p class='answer-content' lang="en"> You have to sing up </p> <p> <small> 2006-09-27 04:23:33 · <a href="#answer20060927042333">answer #5</a> · <span>answered by <u>Savarious</u> <b>2</b></span> · <span>0<span style='color:green;'>⤊</span></span> <span>1<span style='color:red;'>⤋</span></span> </small> </p> </div> </div> </article> </section> <div style="background:#888;padding:8px;margin-top:16px;"> fedest.com, questions and answers </div> </body> </html>
