Yes, in some ways the Internet has dis connected people from society. there now are fewer reasons and opportunities for face to face contact with other people. Shopping, banking, visiting can all be done without ever actually seeing another human. I often wonder if this compromises social skills. On the other hand, people who are homebound because of a physical disability or other reason- the Internet has created a world for them to interact with.
Basically, I think its about choices, how you use it, and to what extent you let it permeate your life.

I think it has changed the definition of "society" somewhat. It is possible to carry on long distance conversations with people all over the world. So you could be more connected.
If by your question, you mean do some people use it to hide. Then my answer would be absolutely. There is a big difference between a real relationship and one on the Internet. You need real ones, especially a family. If you are using it to hide, then yes you are in fact more disconnected. If you use it like I do as an extension of people that it is possible to meet and carry on discussions with, then you are more connected.
So I guess my answer is that it depends on the person.

I think internet has not disconnected people from society, rather connected in an impersonal way. People don't talk as much or call on the phone, rather depend on email to communicate. For business it is a time saver but not for family and friends. Great way to save on money for family picture though.
I make sure I keep my community friendships alive in reality with email as a means to quick communication but still prefer the old telephone or face-to-face

The part of answer is YES and a part is NO.
NO because:
With internet you are connected to number of people. These might be your relatives or also the one you don't know. So actually with internet the world has become smaller and you are connected to every corner of world and society.
YES because:
Though you are connected to lot of people the affection in the relationship is going away. With your closest friend you would just like to chat often instead of talk. The distance within the world has become less but in relationships it has become more.

I think you could argue just the opposite, that the internet has helped those who otherwise might not have interacted with society as much, to interact more. So who knows? It certainly has changed our world though.

It depends what they'd be doing without the internet. Would they have fun, rich lives or just play computer games all day?
I think the internet mostly increase social activity.
