Being an experienced Swimmer/Diver, over the last 5 years I have used a device called "Expand-A-Lung. You can read about it and order one for yourself. It is very simple to use, Breathe in, Exhale. This strengthens the muscles around the lungs for capacity. Practicing underwater lap swimming is also important. DO NOT SWIM BY YOURSELF for underwater lap swimming. Take your time and your strenght will improve. My wife can swim underwater for about 3 minutes on average and I can swim underwater for over 4 minutes on a single breath. Good Luck.

Jaques Cousteau with Gagnan, invented the "regulator".
Maybe, you mean Jaques Mayol, the apnea champion. The one "fighting" with Enzo Mayorca.
If him,I know that he was applying Yoga technics,,applying a diet with a lot of garlic.Underwater training was very important too.
Sorry to have no more information.
Regards.
