3M Scotch Guard was designed for Fabric and Upholstery. It is made to penetrate cloth, but does this poorly with leather.
The best method to use with workboots, is to first treat with Neet's Foot Oil, which will help keep the pores open. Then use a solid (or paste) form of Mink Oil, paying special attention in the joints between the uppers and the sole.
Finally use any good quality shoe or boot polish, buff or not as you wish.
Make sure that the boot are clean and dry before you start this process.

No, you need a product made for leather. I get a spray that waterproofs my suede hiking boots at the sporting goods store.

i suppose you could, but i think that mink oil or any commercial boot grease is better in the long run..
